The first SAFEGUARD pilot demonstration took place in Athens on 25 September 2025, simulating a terrorist threat during a large public event. Greek and Bulgarian law enforcement authorities tested the platform’s operational capabilities in realistic conditions.
The exercise included:
- Open-source intelligence data gathering, analysis and correlation for potential online threats
- UAV deployment and IoT-enabled visual monitoring for detection of suspicious behaviour and crowd activity
- Real-time coordination between operational units and command centres
- Virtual Reality training within a 3D reconstruction of the pilot site.
The pilot confirmed SAFEGUARD’s potential to support Law Enforcement Agencies in protecting public spaces and improving coordinated responses to complex threats.
